Wonders of Peru & Bolivia tour

Start with a visit to Lima, Peru´s capital city. The journey continues to Cusco, there you will enjoy a pleasant train ride to Machu Picchu citadel. Then, sail through the stunning Lake Titicaca. Finally you will travel to Bolivia’s capital city, La Paz and finally, a trip to the Moon Valley, Tiwanaku archaeological site, and the famous Uyuni, the largest salt flat of the world.

  • Day 1 Lima
    • Overnight at selected hotel at Lima.
  • Day 2 Lima - City tour
    • Our guided visit to Lima allows you to see the Historical Center: Main Square, the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the City Hall and old streets with colonial mansions and Moorish balconies. You will also visit the historic Santo Domingo Convent , an icon of colonial architecture. The tour goes all the way to modern district of San Isidro and Miraflores, where you’ll appreciate archaeological sites of sacred Inca structures and also, you will observe the Pacific Ocean coast from the vast seafront. Finally you will visit Larco Museum, a private collection that has a collection of treasures from ancient Peru to understand and enjoy more than 5000 years of history through more than 45,000 pieces.

  • Day 3 Lima – Cusco - Sacred Valley
    • Transfer to Lima airport to take the flight to Cusco Upon your arrival at the airport you will be transferred to the Sacred Valley for your excursion. The visit starts in the huge circular and semicircular agricultural terraces near Moray, built on a limestone plateau, that face Urubamba Valley and were used as botanical lab by the Incas. It’s believed they have a mystical meaning too, but its function, besides the agricultural one, remains a mystery. Very close, below the colonial town of Maras, you will find the mines of one of the finest salts with guarantee of origin and quality, salt of Maras. These mines form old terraces and lagoons, a must for amazing photos.

  • Day 4 Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu
    • Half day visit to Ollantaytambo, a military, religious and agricultural center of the Inca Empire. The fortress is located on top of the mountain and allowed them to protect the whole valley from invaders. From the highest spot we will be able to appreciate the narrow roads along with the channels that remain unaltered since Incan times.
    • Transfer to Ollantaytambo train station to take the train ride to Machu Picchu town.
    • Overnight at selected hotel at Machu Picchu.

  • Day 5 Machu Picchu - Cusco
    • You will start your Machu Picchu excursion with a private guide. Machu Picchu is a renowned example of the Inca’s architecture, surrounded by an amazing landscape of lush forest. Lost in history, Machu Picchu was not discovered until 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham, but was built in the middle of XV century. The name of the citadel comes from the Quechua language that means “Old Mountain” and apparently was the principal Inca’s Sanctuary. Enjoy a buffet lunch at Sanctuary lodge.
    • At the appointed time, you will return to the station to take your train ride back to Cusco.
    • Transfer from the station to the hotel.

  • Day 6 Cusco - City tour
    • Get to know the city of Cusco, an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and possessor of a style on its own. The tour begins at the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, Inti. Once the Spanish conquered Peru, the Dominican order built a lovely church over top this temple’s foundations: the church of Santo Domingo that is still there today. Your next destination is the Main Square, and then the adventure continues at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built of enormous stone blocks expertly shaped by the Incas. It is strategically located at the top of a hill overlooking Cusco. What a view of the city! The tour continues with visits to three archeological sites: “Qenko, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay”, important religious and administrative centers for the Incas. Finally you will visit an art workshop named “Inkas Expression” that presents artists working on silver pieces and painting in wood. This is an ideal place for the ones who like andean art.

  • Day 7 Cusco – Puno
    • Transfer from the hotel to the bus station.
    • Depart in the morning on a special bus to Puno. During the trip you will appreciate the nearby valleys and wonderful landscapes. The route includes a stop at La Raya's pass (4,300 meters above the sea), natural boundary between Cusco and Puno, where you will have excellent photographic shots of the Andean snowcapped mountains. Then you will have a stopover at Raqchi ruins, known as the Temple of God Wiracocha. You will visit the Checacupe church, built in the XVII century, is one of the most beautiful churches in Cusco, it has the particularity of having the oldest image of the Immaculate Conception of all Cusco and probably of America. This image has a Romanesque style with Byzantine influences. You will also see the arch bridge of Checacupe, a colonial construction that rises above the Pitumarca river. Lunch on the route.
    • Upon your arrival, meeting on the bus station and transfer to your hotel.
    • Overnight at selected hotel at Puno.

  • Day 8 Puno - Urus - Llachon - Puno
    • You will take a 40 min. trip to Uros floating islands. These islands are occupied by people known as the "Water Tribe" because they have built their own "Island" by adding periodically new layers of "Totora" a type of marram-grass very typical from this place. There you will have the opportunity to navigate a typical "totora" boat. Then, you will continue your trip to Capachica Peninsula to visit the rural community of Llachón.
    • Llachón has a diverse and unique characteristic of alive culture, biodiversity and archaeological resources with a strategic location within the peninsula. Here you will have a personal contact, and the opportunity to enjoy the physical and human environment, to participate in activities, traditions and life styles of the local population. For this reason, you will visit one of the families where you can share a lunch prepared by the villagers, an unforgettable life experience and also you will have the opportunity to wear the typical dress and learn their customs.
    • At appropriate time you will be transferred back to Puno.
    • Overnight at selected hotel at Puno.

  • Day 9 Puno - La Paz
    • Transfer to Copacabana City, where you will have a short visit to the Main Square and Church. Afterwards, you will board the Catamaran where you will have a buffet lunch on board. Upon your arrival to the Sun Island you will visit the Inca ruins and the Inti Wata complex. Later you will have a special ceremony called Kallawaya and also enjoy a typical Totora boat exhibition, appreciating the tradition as the Incas used to do it. You will continue the trip to Chua, crossing the Tiquina strait and finally you will take a bus to La Paz.

  • Day 10 La Paz
    • You will be picked up from the hotel to visit the famous Witches Market and the San Francisco Colonial Church. The tour will continue to Plaza Murillo where the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the National Congress buildings are located. Then, you will visit the famous colonial Jaen Street where you will see interesting museums, followed by a visit to a replica of the semi-subterranean temple of Tiwanaku’s culture. To change scenery the tour will continue to the residential areas of Obrajes, Calacoto and La Florida. The tour will end with a visit to the unique Moon Valley, where you will have the opportunity to walk around, and visit a ceramic workshop where you will see a demonstration of the pottery's art.

  • Day 11 La Paz - Uyuni
    • Transfer from the hotel to the airport to take the flight to Uyuni.
    • Upon arrival pick up from the airport and visit the train cemetery, the villages of Alota and Kulpina K, the mining town of San Cristobal and the valley of rocks, famous for its gigantic rock formations.
    • Lunch on route.
    • Arrive to Ojo de Perdiz town and enjoy a delicious dinner.
    • Dinner and accommodation at Hotel Tayka del Desierto.
    • Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Day 12 Uyuni
    • After breakfast, visit the Siloli Desert where it is possible to see an interesting rocky formation known as Stone Tree. In this interesting journey you will be able to observe the famous llamas, vicuñas and a particular rodent known as viscacha.
    • Enter to the National Reserve of Andean Fauna Eduardo Avaroa and visit the Red Lagoon that is very impressive for its red color, due to a fine reddish sediment accumulation in the surface, as well as the pigmentation of certain type of seaweed. This lagoon is populated by 3 species of flamencos (among them the famous James).
    • The trip continues towards Sol de Mañana (Morning Sun), this is a place where it is possible to appreciate fumes, geysers and volcanic holes. This landscape reminds of the origins of the earth.
    • The final part of the descent leads to the Green Lagoon, an impressive aquatic mirror that resembles a giant emerald with a particular brightness in the mornings and afternoons; its color is due to the high magnesium content in the water. In the proximities of this lagoon, the Licancahur Volcano is located at (5,868 meters above sea level).
    • Box lunch and return to Ojo de Perdiz.
    • Dinner and overnight stay at selected hotel at Uyuni.
    • Included: Breakfast and dinner.
  • Day 13 Uyuni
    • After breakfast, depart from Ojo de Perdiz towards Uyuni, on the way visit the Cañapa, Hedionda, Honda, Chiarkhota and Ramaditas lagoons, Ollagüe´s viewpoint, the Galaxy caves (famous for its rock formations) and the Incahuasi Island. It is located in the heart of the salt flat and is the greatest of a group of islands that represents an isolated ecosystem. The island is populated with a cacti species that measures up to 12 meters high (26.25 feet), providing an impressive view. Lunch and continue to Colchani.
    • Dinner and overnight at selected hotel at Uyuni.
    • Included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Day 14 Uyuni – La Paz
    • Transfer to airport to get back to La Paz.
    • Overnight at selected hotel at La Paz.
  • Day 15 La Paz
    • transfer to the airport for your international flight back home.
