In Peru, the Orchidaceous family features some 3,000 species, most of them growing in the tropical jungle of the eastern slopes of the Andes: the cloud forest region. There, amidst the exuberant vegetation produced by nearly 5,000 mm of rainfall per year, orchids multiply forming veritable natural gardens.

The main places where orchids grow are: in the far northwest of Peru, in the departments of Tumbes and Piura, east, in the department of Amazonas, San Martín department, Huanuco, the Cordillera Blanca mountain range and the Callejon de Huaylas, Junín, and finally in Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, home to more than 200 orchid varieties.
