Ancient pre-Inca graveyard found near Lima
A well-preserved graveyard, possibly 1 000 years old, has been discovered at an archaeological site on the outskirts of the Peruvian capital. Prof. Eeckhout of the Brussels Free University led the excavation project that unearthed the remains of 30 people, including 19 still intact as mummies. Exceptionally the site had not been plundered by grave robbers as happened to the Pachacamac temple complex looted for valuable artifacts many times. The graveyard, which stretches over a 200 mē area, is within the boundaries of the Pachacamac archaeological site 30km south of Lima.
