France
to invest 5.7 million euros in Cusco
The Choquequirao archaeological complex in Cusco, declared
an Archaeological Heritage, will become a new tourism attraction on an international
scale, following the launching of the Choquequirao Plan to be executed with
an investment of € 5.7 million through the Peru-France Fund. The plan
includes the development of studies for the Integrated Management Plan of
the archaeological complex; the conservation of natural resources and ecosystems
in the area and the historical/archaeological investigation of the complex.
The plan includes solid waste treatment at the complex and outlying areas;
travel facilities through inns, lookout points and location signs. In 2004,
this plan will promote environmental education and training; develop community
identification with the tourism business and travel services in the villages.
Cusco
is the world's second major travel destination
The
British magazine Wanderlust, one of the most prestigious in the world and
the leading magazine of its kind in Great Britain, granted the Wanderlust
Travel Awards 2003 to the city of Cusco, for being the second best travel
destination among 557 cities worldwide. First place was awarded to Dubrovnik,
the Croatian resort on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, which has become Europe's
most fashionable destination. Cusco, as opposed to other destinations, has
managed to keep its level of attraction among British tourists, since in the
previous edition of the Wanderlust awards, given in 2001, Cusco was also ranked
in second place, after Sydney, Australia (which ranked seventh in the latest
voting).
U.S. website highlights Peruvian biodiversity
The pioneer of world conservationism, David Bellamy, has become one of Peru's
best image "salesmen", by affirming that if we had to rebuild the planet the
best place to start would be Peru. An article highlighting this biodiversity
was placed on the American website covering news for senior citizens.
The secret life of the Mochicas
"Intimacies of Ancient Peru" is the name of the new Mochica erotic art hall
opened in December at the Larco Museum, thanks to the sponsorship of Banco
Wiese Sudameris. This hall, which contains the world's most important collection
of erotic pottery, has been renovated by applying stateof- the-art museum
technology, and shows the Mochicas' different views on the sexual act. It
can be seen at http://museolarco.perucultural.org.pe.
