Kofi Annan: Cuzco has much to offer the world
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan visited Cusco during his two-day visit to Peru. The deep braying of the pututo trumpets welcomed Annan upon his arrival in the centuries-old Inca city. Annan was impressed with the majestic views of the archaeological site, a Mankind Heritage Site.
Accompanied by his wife Nane Lagergren, Annan took part in an offering to the earth goddess, explored the Machu Picchu sanctuary and met with indigenous leaders. Annan was declared an illustrious visitor and was conferred the Gold Medal by Regional Cusco government. After expressing his gratitude for the medals received, Annan promised to visit Cusco again, saying Cusco "Has much to offer the world".

Raimund Hosch: "Peru's variety attracts Europeans"
Peru is a modern nation that guards its tourist treasures well, said Raimund Hosch, president of Messe Berlin, one of the top 10 tourism trade fairs, during a visit to Lima, where he presented the International Tourism Bourse - ITB Berlin 2004. "I have found that Peru has good service infrastructure plus increasing tourism.
The variety found here is without a doubt what attracts European tourists, and we add to that the recovery of Peru's cultural and historical legacy that is being promoted by the Peruvian government, one can see that the country has a very attractive tourist product," Hosch said.
Large ceremonial complex discovered in Trujillo
After 13 years of studies, researchers have uncovered the Huaca Cao Viejo, a Mochica temple located in Chocope, Trujillo. The walls of this Moche ceremonial complex have been entirely reconstructed, with carved figures of fish and animals. However, the face of the main figure, the Beheader God, is still kept under wraps and cannot be reconstructed, which has contributed to the air of mystery surrounding the complex.
The complex, the largest discovered to date, was the site of propitiatory and sacrificial rituals. The discovery is an important contribution to the study of the Moche culture, as it sheds light on the characteristics of the region. Researchers say construction of the ceremonial complex began at the dawn of Christianity and carried on until the eight century AD.
