Editors’ note: The importance of Nature

Dear Readers,
Here in Peru the weather is cooling a little bit while we welcome the autunm and the rainy season is coming to a end. In the Andes, farmers are starting to harvest their fields and the sun is shinning over the lands.
Once the harvest season ends, as in many other cultures, in Cusco there is a celebration thanking the sun for the crop and a ceremony praying for another good agricultural year. It is called the Inti Raymi, and it is really the celebration of the Sun, filled with color, music, mysticism and folklore.
The Inti Raymi is one of the most famous major celebration in Peru, and it happens at the best moment of the year. Between May and September the Andes of Peru are marvelous. Nature is blooming everywhere. Colca Canyon in Arequipa is one of the most impressive places to stay during these months, where you could find the richness of our soil and the beauty of our fauna and flora species, where the condor is the king of the Canyon.
Nature is an important part of peruvian people life. Why do not let it be part of yours too?
Regards
José and Cynthia

Every year on the 24th of June Cusco celebrates the festival of Inti Raymi. This festival was celebrated by the Incas as the Festival of the Sun where the God of the Sun Wiracocha is honored. The Inti Raymi symbolizes the eternal consecration of marriage between the Sun and his sons, the human beings. Scientifically the solstice begins on the 21st of June, but according to the Pacha Unachaq, a sundial used by the Incas, the sun stays some days in the same place before rising on the 24th of June. This day was proclaimed by the high priest as the New Year: Inti Raymi!

Colca: The Condor's Canyon
The Colca canyon is one of the most important attractive of Arequipa city. It has 100 km large and 3,400 mts. depth. A volcanic chain of mountains that has Sabancaya, Ampato and Coropuna peaks impresses because it's magnificent. Visiting the geyser near Condor Sanctuary will be as intense as the volcanic activity of the area.
In Chila mountain range, the Mismi peak (5597 mts.) and its entire environment shapes a very strong geology that is a "must" to visit in Peru.
The wide diversity of ecological levels in the Colca area, allow to appreciate the great variety of flora and fauna. Remember this is the Condor kingdom, but also from the giant Humming Bird, and from over a hundred of other birds, that turns this place into a Birdwatchers Paradise.
The Condor image is the tourist seal of the Colca Canyon, although it is important to know that the observation of this bird is part of a conjunction of major experiences.
It is usual to bring the visitor to the valley with the unique interest of the Condor, and sometimes this experience can be frustrating because this is not a domesticated animal that appears when it is called. Vicuñas and Guanacos are camelids in its natural way, and are also very interesting options to observe, also over 30 species of cactus, joining a set of more than 300 native plants types, complete an odd natural system in this valley.
