CHAVIN DE HUANTAR

The cultural influence of Chavin and its cult expanded through the north until Cajamarca and Lambayeque and by the south up to Ayacucho and Ica, some researchers point that maybe they even reached the jungle. This is evident because the traces found in these areas.

THEOCRATIC ORGANIZATION
In Chavin, the priests, devoted to the study of the natural conditions and the religious administration, accomplished to concentrate the power, this is why the established a theocratic system. In the firt place they used it to canalize the energies of the people in the construction of temples without making this a social difference. As the time past, these differences turned more marked considering the role of each people in the social group. The priests owner's of the knowledge of the weather, stars, nature cycles, occupied a privilege position.
The Ceremonial Center. The writers suggest that Chavin de Huantar did not have many permanent habitants but it was a ceremonial center very frequent by pilgrim from many areas searching oracles.

RELIGION
The Gods of Chavin are ferocious figures with human shapes and animal characteristics. The religion allowed the Chavins to extend their culture along the coast and the jungle. The integration of the territories was able because the exchange of the goods, ideas and experiences, which also allowed the tolerance of other local divinities.

ART
The artisans of Chavin expressed themselves through the rock sculpture, pottery, and metallurgy. In all these manifestations we can find that they used conventional elements such as the symmetric representation of images, animal motives, circles, and other geometric traces. In the same manner it is common to find hybrids supernatural beings as a result of mixes of animals and humans with feline characteristics mainly.
