Machu Picchu & Uyuni Salt Flats

Visit the most iconic and impressive places of the Inca empire during this eleven-day trip. Start in the capital of the empire, Cusco city, then take the train to Machu Picchu citadel. Then it is time to go Lake Titicaca, the marked spot in the Inca history where its founders emerged. Across the lake, it is La Paz, the capital city of Bolivia and its typical markets and finally the amazing Uyuni salt flats.

Schedule by Day

  • Day 1 Lima
    • Upon your arrival, reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel.
    • Overnight at selected hotel at Lima.
  • Day 2 Lima - Cusco
    • Transfer to Lima airport to take the flight to Cusco city.
    • Transfer to the hotel.
    • Afternoon City Tour:
    • Visit the city declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The tour will start at the temple of Koricancha, an ancient Inca palace where the order of the Dominicans built an incredible church that can still be seen there. Then visit the Main Square, where the Cathedral and the beautiful Church of the Society of Jesus, among other colonial buildings, are located. Continue to the San Cristóbal colonial chruch to enjoy a spectacular view of the city. Afterwards you will go on to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, an Inca building known for its massive walls of hewn stone, also Qenko and Puca Pucara archaeological complexes.

  • Day 3 Sacred Valley
    • Half day visit to Ollantaytambo, a military, religious and agricultural center of the Incan Empire. The fortress is located on top of a mountain to allow them to protect the whole valley from invaders. From the highest spot you will be able to appreciate the narrow roads along with the channels that remain unaltered since Incan times.

  • Day 4 Machu Picchu
    • Transfer from the hotel to the train station to take the train to Machu Picchu. You will arrive to station in Machu Picchu town, and then you will be transported by bus to Machu Picchu citadel, one of the most renowned examples of the Inca’s architecture, surrounded by an amazing landscape of lush forest. Lost in history, Machu Picchu was not discovered until 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham, but was built in the middle of XV century. At the appointed time, you will return to the station to take your train ride back to the Sacred Valley. From there transfer to Cusco city and to the selected hotel.

  • Day 5 Cusco – Lake Titicaca
    • Morning departure by bus to Puno. During the trip you will appreciate the nearby valleys and wonderful landscapes. The route includes a stop at La Raya's pass (4,300 meters above the sea), natural boundary between Cusco and Puno, where you will have excellent photographic shots of the Andean snowcapped mountains. Then you will have a Stopover at Raqchi ruins, known as the Temple of God Wiracocha. You will visit also the Checacupe church, built in the XVII century. Lunch on the route.

  • Day 6 Lake Titicaca: Uros & Taquile Islands
    • Two hours excursion across the Titicaca Lake until the unique floating island of Uros. The ancient habitants of this lake, known as the "Water Tribe", have built their own "island" by adding periodically new layers of “Totora” a type of a marram-grass very typical from this place, their houses and boats are made of this material too. After you can experience some of the ancient traditions of these people, you will continue your boat trip to Taquile Island. There you will visit the Handicraft Center where you can buy a great variety of handmade tissues with very colorful and delicate designs. At proper time you will be transferred to Puno.

  • Day 7 Puno – La Paz
    • Early transfer to Copacabana Sanctuary. Board the Catamaran to sail to Sun Island, the legendary birthplace of the Inca Empire. Visit the Inca Garden, steps and fountain followed by the Inti Wata Cultural Complex including the Ekako Underground Museum, the traditional medicine and the Titikaka Reed Shipbuilders display centers, the Pachamama agricultural Inca terraces, a handicraft center, the Intica lounge and at the Manco Kapac look out the largest variety of Andean camelids. Also, the Inti Wata Complex at Sun Island includes a unique sailing experience aboard a huge Titikaka traditional vessel for a panoramic visit to the Pilkokaina Inca Palace. Catamaran to Copacabana harbor while enjoying a buffet lunch on board, land transfer to La Paz.

  • Day 8 La Paz
    • City Tour:
    • You will be picked up to visit the famous Witches Market and the San Francisco Colonial Church. The tour will continue to Plaza Murillo where the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the National Congress buildings are located. Then, you will visit the famous colonial Jaen Street where you will see interesting museums, followed by a visit to a replica of the semi-subterranean temple of Tiwanaku’s Culture. To change scenery the tour will continue to the residential areas of Obrajes, Calacoto and La Florida. The tour ends with a visit to the unique Moon Valley, where you will have the opportunity to walk around, and visit a ceramic workshop where you will see a demonstration of the pottery's art.

  • Day 9 La Paz - Uyuni
    • Pick up from the airport and visit the Uyuni Salt Flat and Incahuasi Island. This island is located in the heart of the salt flat and is the greatest of a group of islands that represents an isolated ecosystem. It is populated with a cacti species that measures up to 12 meters high (26.25 feet), providing an impressive overview. The trip continues towards Coquesa village; ascend towards the Tunupa Volcano to visit the Coquesa Mummies or Chantani museum.

    • Overnight at selected hotel at Uyuni.

  • Day 10 Uyuni – La Paz
    • Flight to La Paz.
    • Transfer to selected hotel.

  • Day 11 La Paz
    • Transfer from the hotel to the airport to take your international flight.
